AS World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations get under way in Spain, thousands of young Catholics from central Vietnam have showed their solidarity with world delegates at a special gathering.

Some two thousand youths in uniform from Hue Archdiocese attended a rally at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Vang in Quang Tri province on August 14-15. bad credit loans The gathering, with the theme Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith, was organized by the archdiocesan committee for youth ministry.

London 2012 chairman Lord Coe declared "today we bring the Olympic Torch Relay to life" as organisers hope the 8,000-mile relay involving 8,000 torchbearers will be the point when enthusiasm for the Games ignites across the country.
Details on the two-day finale to the 70-day relay, which brings the Olympic Flame to the lighting of the cauldron to start the Games are being kept under wraps until closer to the start of the relay at Land's End on May 19.
Around 7,000 people, many of whom are members of the public who have shown community spirit, courage and sporting determination, have been named as torchbearers.
The youngest unsung hero is 12 and each unsecured loan torchbearer will wear a white-and-gold uniform which been designed by adidas.
An average of 115 torchbearers a day will carry the flame during the nationwide relay, from May 19 to July 27, to the opening ceremony in Stratford, east London.
Unusual ways have been found for some of them to complete their relay leg.
A torchbearer will carry the flame on a chair lift at the Needles on the Isle of Wight, another will skate with it at the Nottingham Ice Centre and it will be rowed at bad credit loans Henley-on-Thames and on the River Bann in Coleraine, Northern Ireland.

After protests that marred the international leg of the torch relay before the Beijing Games, the International Olympic Committee ruled that future relays would be restricted to the host country.
The overall route has been designed to also take in cultural institutions such as the Turner Gallery in Margate and Cass Sculpture Park at Goodwood as well as many of sporting stadia and racecourses.
Lord Coe said: "The flame symbolises the Olympic spirit and its journey around the UK will bring the excitement of the Games to our streets.
"Now the people know the route the Olympic Flame will be carried along and the torchbearers for their community, they can start planning how they might celebrate."
The detailed information means that crowds of cheering supporters and onlookers will be able to plan where to be when the flame and its' torchbearer pass along their nearest high street, through their town square or past their local village shop.
Lord Coe hopes the different regions will take the chance to make it "a moment to shine".
The aim is the flame is brought to within 10 miles of 95% of the population.
The torchbearers were chosen through the nomination schemes run by London 2012 and sponsors Samsung, Lloyds TSB and Coca-Cola.
Background checks are being run on all the nominees before the final line-up is confirmed.

St. Joseph's Day Fritters Recipe

MAKES ABOUT 18


FOR THE FRITTERS
2 tsp. sugar plus 1 cup
1 1/4 cups milk
5 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 tbsp. white rum
1/4 tsp. kosher salt
2 cups flour
5 eggs
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
Canola oil, for frying
Amarena cherries, halved, to garnish

FOR THE FILLING
1 lb. ricotta, drained overnight in a cheesecloth-lined strainer, or ricotta impastata
1 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. orange zest

1. For the fritters: Bring 2 tsp. sugar, milk, butter, rum, and salt to a boil in a 4-qt. saucepan over medium-high heat. Add flour; stir vigorously with a wooden UNSECURED LOANS spoon until dough begins to dry, 2–3 minutes. Transfer dough to bowl of stand mixer fitted with paddle and beat on medium-high speed. Add eggs one at a time, until each is incorporated fully; dough should be smooth and hold peaks when lifted from paddle. Transfer dough to piping bag fitted with 1/2″ star tip, and pipe 2 1/2″-diameter circles onto parchment paper. Using scissors, cut out paper around each fritter; set aside. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
2. For the filling: Combine ricotta, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and orange zest in a large bowl and whisk until smooth, 2–3 minutes. Transfer to piping bag fitted with a 1/2″ star tip; set aside.
3. Pour oil into a 6-qt. Dutch oven to a depth of 2″; heat over medium-high heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 350°. Working in batches, invert fritters into oil and baste paper with oil until it releases. Remove paper with tongs and continue frying, turning once, until puffed and light bad credit loans brown, 3–4 minutes. Remove fritters from oil and set on paper towels to drain briefly. Pi Day

It’s March 14th, or 3.14, the day geeks around the world know to be Pi day. This is the number one day of the year to celebrate your favorite mathematical constant!

That’s pretty basic knowledge for some, but if you’ve been out of school for a few years it’s easy enough to forget and think it’s the radius instead.

Cuba Suppresses Youths’ Uprising

HAVANA, March 13—Forty youths were reported killed this afternoon in an apparently unsuccessful surprise attempt to overthrow the Batista regime. A number of soldiers and police men also were reported killed.

The youths attacked the Presidential Palace with rifles, machine guns and hand grenades.

They rushed the Colon Street entrance, killed the sergeant on guard, and got inside the palace.

In all, five Government troops were killed in the Palace, according to an official estimate.

The palace guard mowed down some rebels in the patio and on the stairway as they tried to reach the upper floors. Others were killed outside the palace.

Ten Tanks Rushed to City

The army rushed ten tanks, numerous anti-aircraft guns and several thousand troops into the city from near-by Camp Columbia. The reserves were able to lift the siege of the beleaguered Palace garrison before the rebels could succeed in their apparent attempt to kill President Fulgencio Batista.

The attack continued for about two hours, during which firing was heard in many parts of the city. Then the Government announced that order had been restored and that the President and his family were safe.

Tonight the uprising appeared to be over, at least for the time being. However, firing was still reported in the outskirts of the city.

The attack appeared to have been made by student revolutionaries and adherents of former President Carlos Prio Socarros.

Batista Accuses Pro-Reds

Dr. Prio had been ousted in 1952 by the military coup that brought President Batista to power after an absence of several years. The ousted President now lives in Florida.

General Batista attributed today’s attack to a pro-Communist group.

“The people have responded as always in support of the Government to maintain order and peace,” he added.

He said the Cuban public had never supported and would not support pro-Communists.

During the fighting, a United States tourist, Peter Korinda of Clifton, N.J., was killed as he stepped out on the balcony of the Regis Hotel on Colon Street, about two blocks from the palace. He was struck in the neck by a bullet, and he died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Because of the uprising, all airline flights into and out of Cuba were canceled this afternoon. National flights in Cuba also were canceled.

Downtown Havana tonight looked like an armed camp. The streets were barred to civilians. All motion picture theatres and night clubs were closed.

Censorship was established by the Ministry of Communications on radio and television. The order barred the showing of any of the fighting. Only official announcements may be broadcast by radio and television.

It was not immediately clear whether the insurgents had any connection with Fidel Castro, the rebel leader who has been holding forth since December in the mountains of Oriente Province at the eastern end of Cuba.

Señor Castro is supported by some students but is said to have operated independently of the revolutionary students in Havana, although on a parallel course.

However, Cuban Army headquarters charged tonight that those who attacked the palace were Communist followers of Señor Castro and former President Prio.

The known dead included Menelao Mora, who was a member of Congress in the Prio Administration; José Antonio Echevarria, president of the student federation at the University of Havana, and a policeman.

Today’s uprising began at 3:20 P.M. About that time the insurgents simultaneously attacked the Presidential Palace in downtown Havana and Radio Station Reloj (Clock) in suburban Vedado, several miles away. Radio Reloj broadcasts news and the time of day.

The rebels captured the radio station quickly and broadcast stories indicating that the revolt was a success. Included was a report that the Army had dismissed its Chief of Staff, Gen. Francisco Tabernilla.

Two hours later, however, General Tabernilla issued a statement from Camp Columbia, which is Army headquarters, that the uprising was over. Firing continued around the Presidential Palace for forty minutes more until about 6 P.M.

At that time the palace was surrounded by soldiers, tanks and anti-aircraft guns. President Batista sent word from the palace that he and his family were safe.

In the attack on the palace, a group fired from the roof of an adjacent building. Witnesses said the palace steps and patio ran with blood. The walls of the patio were badly damaged by machine gun fire.

For nearly three hours, tanks, machine guns and rifles fired from the palace grounds to dislodge the snipers on the roof.

Near-by business houses closed, and residents of the palace area bad credit loans remained in their homes behind shuttered doors and windows. Soldiers and policemen refused to let anyone leave the vicinity.

The New York Times office, which is on the same street as the palace, a block away, shook with the firing. Bullets struck the rear wall.

Slain American Was 38

Mr. Korinda was 38 years old and worked as a shipping clerk for a chemical company in Garfield, N.J. He served in the Army for three years during World War II.

Relatives said he had left for Florida March 4 for a two-week vacation, with plans for a brief side trip to Cuba.

He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Korinda; four brothers and a sister.

Gradually it became a tradition that on this day the family used to gather for a mid-Lenten feast in which the Mother was treated as the 'Special Guest'. As the children visited their moms on this day in order to spend entire day with their mothers they used to give treats of cakes to their mothers. They also used to get wildflower bouquets and other such things for their mothers. 
The same 'Mothering Sunday' is today celebrated as and popularly known as the Mother's Day. 


Mother's Day Origin In the United States Of America

In the United States Of America (USA) the situation was quite different. There the early English settlers often disapproved of more secular holidays and this is why the Mothering Sunday tradition never really took hold in the USA. Even some early attempts made there in this regard were mixed with women's suffrage and other peace movements.
In the USA it was Julia Ward Howe, the author of the words to the Battle Hymn of the Republic, who came with the idea of an International Mother's day in 1872. It is noticeable here that her objective behind this was not exactly to honor mothers but to celebrate the peace. 
Another important name associated with present form of Mother's Day celebrations is of Anna Jarvis. Anna Jarvis was the person who made lots of efforts for establishing Mother's Day, as a national celebration. Jarvis held an annual gathering "Mother's Friendship Day", with an objective to heal the pain of the victims and those affected of the Civil War. After the death of her mother in 1905, Anna began a campaign for the establishment of an official Mother's Day bad credit loans in order to commemorate and pay tribute to her mother.
It could be said that Anna Jarvis devoted her entire life making efforts to have Mother's Day declared as a national holiday. She began her struggle in the spring of 1908. Another Mother's Day celebration service was held in Philadelphia. Philadelphia was the place where Anna resided with her brother. She celebrated Mother's Day there later that afternoon. 

Official Mother's Day

Finally in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared that Mother's Day should be celebrated as a national holiday on the second Sunday in May.

Happy Birthday Oreo!!!

Kidding. It’s not my birthday.

It’s the 100th birthday of Oreo Cookies.

I had to jump on the Birthday Cake Oreo Cookie bandwagon, and what better way to eat chocolate-and-frosting sandwich cookies than to stuff them inside chocolate brownies and top the entire chocolatey mess with frosting.

Cookies on their own are good, but stuffed inside brownies, they’re even better.

I’m not alone in the Birthday Oreo baking bonanza because recently, I’ve seen:

The major difference I notice with the Birthday Cake Oreos compared to regular Oreos is that they smell like birthday cake. Yum.

But they don’t really taste like cake. I wish they tasted how they smelled, which is positively divine.

That’s okay because brownies make up for the unsecured loans  lack of a strong cake flavor.

Chocolate remedies everything.

I also noticed that the Birthday Cake Oreos are slightly sweeter than regular Oreos, but not by much.

If you can’t find Birthday Oreos, or in the future bad credit loans when these special limited edition Oreos won’t be around, no worries. Just use the old standby original Oreo.

Whatever you use, when you’re stuffing cookies inside brownies, you’re going to be happy.

And topped with a thick layer of vanilla buttercream frosting, you’re going to be even happier.

 

Birthday Cake Oreo Cookie-Stuffed Brownies with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting and Sprinkles
Makes 24 brownies
Notes: If desired, use a boxed brownie mix, and prepare as indicated; pouring half the batter into the pan, topping with Oreos, and pouring remaining batter over the top of them. Bake as directed, but I would suggest a 25-30 minute guideline. Use storebought frosting if desired. If you cannot find Birthday Oreos, use any desired Oreo variety.
4 ounces baking chocolate (I used 10 squares of TJ’s 72% chocolate bar or use 4 squares Baker’s Chocolate, semi-sweet)
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted (1 1/2 sticks)
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons espresso or brewed coffee, optional
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sprinkles, optional
15 Birthday Oreo Cookies (or Original Oreos)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch pan with foil and spray it with cooking spray. Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwave-safe bowl for 90 seconds or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir in sugar (it will seem very granular, this is okay). Stir in eggs and vanilla. If adding espresso or coffee, add it now. Stir in flour until just combined, do not overmix. Stir in sprinkles if using. Spread half the brownie batter in prepared pan. Place Oreos on top of brownie batter (I did 3 across by 5 rows = 15 Oreos). Top with the remaining brownie batter and smooth it over the top, very slightly pushing the Oreos down with your spatula, very lightly. Bake 26 to 30 minutes or until brownies are set, taking care not to overbake. (Insert a toothpick into the center of the pan, and avoid inserting it into an Oreo, to check for doneness. Toothpick may not come out entirely clean even when done because these are very fudgy brownies). Note the brownies may “puff up” quite dramatically in their final minutes of cooking and this is okay. Let them cool completely, about 1 hour, or put the pan into the freezer for 10 minutes if you’re rushed before frosting, slicing, and serving. While brownies are cooling, make frosting (or use storebought)
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting (adapted from the C&H Cane Sugar box)
1 pound (1 box) powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup cream (or half-and-half, or milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (use clear vanilla to keep your frosting extra white if this matters to you)
1/4 teaspoon Bright White Soft Gel Paste, optional (discussed here)
Mix until very smooth. (You may need to play with the cream and/or powdered sugar ratio very slightly while mixing the frosting until your preferred frosting consistency is reached). Frost the brownies and garnish with more sprinkles, as desired.

 

Getting to the point where you can chomp into one of these is easy.

Just make the brownie batter from scratch because it only takes 5 minutes, but if you really want to use a boxed mix, use that and mix it according to the directions (plus I’d add 2 tablespoons of coffee and a dash of vanilla extract).

Pour half the batter into the pan. Use foil so you can just lift this whole 6.743 pounds of brownie-cookie-frosting mixture out with ease. It’s so much easier that way and less messy and less chance of wasting chocolate at the bottom of a pan.

Crack open a package of Oreos. Birthday Oreos are fun, but any Oreo will do and top the brownies with Oreos. I used 15 but you could have used less, or more, depending on how ridiculous delicious you want these brownies to be.

Pour the rest of the brownie batter over the top and use a spatula to smooth the top. I suggest lighting smooshing the Oreos down some with your spatula so they “embed” into the bottom layer but don’t smoosh too much that they “bottom out”.

Bake for at least 26 minutes and start checking them at that point. Baking times could vary based on how many Oreos uses, oven temperature variances, if you made brownies from scratch or not, how halfway raw very gooey you like your brownies, and so forth. Use the toothpick test and common sense but know that a toothpick may not come out perfectly clean because these are very fudgy brownies. Also watch the edges and if they’re pulling away from the sides of the pan and foil, that’s a very good sign these babies are ready.

Customs Chiefs Day

Former Kazakh state customs head Serik Baimaganbetov  bad credit loans has been arrested on charges of abuse of office and large-scale bribery.

His detention was announced on February 6 in a statement issued by Kazakhstan's financial police.

Baimanganbetov served as head of the Customs Control Committee from May 2011 until his dismissal on February 2.

He previously served as Kazakhstan's foreign minister and as head of the presidential administration's law enforcement division.

Separately, the Interfax news agency has reported that Orak unsecured loans Sarbopeyev, mayor of the western city of Zhanaozen, has been detained on suspicion of embezzling state funds.

Zhanaozen was recently the scene of labor unrest in which at least 16 people died in clashes with police.

Former Zhanaozen Mayor Zhalgas Babakhanov was detained on similar charges earlier this month.
